The Department of Public Health Dentistry reaches out to the far-flung underserved populations of the city to provide preventive, promotive and curative services. It has expanded and strengthened the scope of services by rendering Community Outreach activities mainly through its Satellite clinics and Mobile Dental Clinics. Further it has been actively involved in Tobacco Cessation, Preventive oral health care and engages in Innovative Health Education Programs. Most of the dental diseases are preventable and require attention from their initial stages. Creating awareness and free oral health examinations in outdoor settings are almost a daily activity. A fleet of six mobile dental clinics under the aegesis of National Health Mission extends services to various districts of Delhi and also collaborates in many satellite centres and school centres. The Department also runs a tobacco cessation clinic to help people alleviate from this social evil called tobacco. It also makes special effort to target and reach out to ‘special’ groups like hearing impaired children and juveniles in observation homes. The school pit and fissure sealant program under the aegesis of National Oral Health Program, another milestone towards prevention of dental decay in community settings has been carried out.
