National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has envisaged the National Oral Health Program [NOHP] for an affordable, accessible and equitable oral health care delivery in a well- coordinated manner for bringing about “optimal oral health” for all. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India has designated Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), New Delhi MAIDS as National Resource Centre for Oral Health & Tobacco Cessation (NRC-OH-TC) since May 2021. 

National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation (NRC-OH-TC) is the single point of contact for assistance in developing, implementing and advancing the scope of dental health professionals in tobacco cessation for addressing patient care, research and capacity building along with integration in dental education.

VISION

NRC for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation is a single point of contact for assistance in developing, implementing and advancing the scope of dental health professionals in tobacco cessation for addressing patient care, research and capacity building along with integration in dental education.

MISSION

To provides technical support and capacity building in integrating strategies of promotion and prevention in oral health and tobacco and strengthening public healthcare systems in India.

Deliverables

  • To conduct a situation analysis of status and utilization of tobacco cessation services at identified dental clinics under NOHP and Dental Colleges.
  • To conduct continuous capacity building and training programs through e-learning mode at Virtual learning centre.
  • To develop Policy and Operational Guidelines for integration of oral health and tobacco use cessation.
  • To develop appropriate information education communication material for delivering tobacco use cessation across the country.
  • To increase utilization of tobacco cessation services by at least 5% per dental facilities across healthcare settings.
  • To establish a tobacco cessation monitoring and surveillance system.
